They are also widely used as fast acting protection devices in DC power supplies. The switching speed of thyristors is very fast and they are able to switch from fully off to fully on, typically in 1µs.

“Big energy users” that’s a very good term. The application of this term is however is too narrow. If suddenly I wanted to fly to Mars, build a house there and to make food/water by extracting materials from atmosphere I would personally become a “Big energy user”. These days as energy is becoming increasingly scarce everyone is encouraged to use less of it – to save water, to travel less, to have a smaller house/car, etc. The same goes for the industry – only those industries that use less energy are being encouraged (biotech, IT, legal, fashion…).
The opposite of energy scarcity can also be luxury. Having a big house, making food out of air, extracting gold from seawater, traveling a lot – using a plane or going off planet is not necessary waste.
In case energy becomes clean, cheap and plentiful its demand will not fall – the users of big energy are going to grow and every single one of them will benefit.

If you want someone to give you a quote then a design (specification) document would be needed.
Otherwise you could hire someone per hour, but is hard to know if they will not doodle around.

I have an idea how to help it reach critical mass:
A non-intrusive popup should be placed on the Frontpage which should invite into the IRC channel, by allowing a single click log in with Facebook, Google, Focus Fusion Forum accounts (by choosing a nickname from there) or anonymously.

I am not a physicist myself, so I cant provide feedback. I am guessing physicist are more busy just to read all the essays available.
But would suggest to post it on a free-access journal such as http://arxiv.org/ just to increase the likelihood of access and feedback.

I think social and Facebook sites should be good as well, but we would need to coordinate positive promotion such as liking, up-voting so that it receives more visibility on the frontpage due to this activity.

I never experienced it myself (not that I know of at least), but it seems the issue is real.
I thought initially it is ISP related, so please share what is your ISP if you see it happening.
Otherwise I think it could be hosting issues and maybe related to server time – they could be doing backups or other maintenance on their servers at specific times.
Switching the hosting could help, but it is not an easy decision to make and is not guaranteed to make a difference, so we will try to hold off for now.

Regarding reaching out to members on focusfusion website that are location specific, in principle we could use ip addresses, but I am somewhat not sure if its the right thing to do.
I tried sending batch emails to everyone for important causes, such as society board election, but sometimes they are not well accepted.

Facebook does have location based advertising. Of course we will make sure to add this news to the front-page of focusfusion.org,
but if reaching more people is important then it should be promoted more than that. I think creating a proper correct meetup group also would help with advertisement
as many people join new groups – for that it is important to prepare in advance before creating one. Meetup group should have a good description and be clear about location.

We could also spend some of our own money to promote it specific to your area on Facebook – that also can help and is not too expensive.
