I have no idea. That’s weird. Message in to expression engine forums.

The small image on the left in the above post is from the info graphic that answers the question: Can we live on Renewables? (attached here).

All these other graphs aside, who wants to take a stab at showing how much energy there will be if we crack the pB11 fusion problem?

I love how he describes fusion:

Fusion Power is speculative and experimental. I think it is reckless to assume that the fusion problem will be cracked, but I’m happy to estimate how much power fusion could deliver, if the problem is cracked.

But he only looks at DT and DD fusion. We’ll need to get pB11 into the next edition.

In any case, his conclusion is that, if cracked, Deterium based fusion offers plentiful sustainable energy for millions of years. The info graphic from this page is great for perspective on just how much energy in comparison to all other sources! And that’s just DD. How do we calculate pB11 for this info graphic?

I was thinking originally of a Wikipedia article with all the contenders laid out for a side-by-side comparison, but it would be possible for anyone to jump in and alter the article, possibly with the results listed above. Better would be an internet pamphlet, which would allow continual updating as things progress on the fusion front.

An App – updated in real time, with referees to vet the data. A big part of setting up the energy league is developing referee protocol. We need to clarify what is objective data, and what are subjective values.

You will be able to overlay subjective values if you want to. They do, after all, have weight. The NIMBY effect is real (see http://projectnoproject.com )

This is perfect! You are describing the start of the “energy stat cards” for the fission division of the energy league.

This is what I’m talking about in the Energy League and Brackets campaign. Now moved to Fusion energy League site: http://www.fusionenergyleague.org/index.php/blog/category/C3

I shall move this into the “apps and games campaign” forum.

Note that the point isn’t to dismiss one energy source or another. After all, Games have been defined (in that very same slideshow) as “a voluntary attempt to overcome unnecessary obstacles”. So if there’s an energy source you’re trying to eliminate, that’s not what we’re striving for here. We’re seeing how far we can go with each, and what the spread is like.

Slide #94 also points out how the same thing can be considered work (analyzing spreadsheets) or play, depending on the context.

So, yes, we want people to do real, challenging work, with real data and come up with ways for their team to beat the other team or to at least reach a personal best in league. (What is the ultimate solar energy source – how far can you take it, what value added features would work, how would you value them…)

Let’s start off easy, by just having “intra league” competition. Wind with wind (different manufactureres), solar with solar.

And don’t worry about the complexity of information required. We’re in expansion – brainstorming mode right now. Everything, to start with. We can distill later. Plus, people can handle it. Take a look at slide #77 from Sebastian’s slideshow here).

    A screenshot which shows:

how the customized interfaces of a professional World of Warcraft looks like. Confusing as it may look to us newbies, every single stat displayed here is useful, immediate, real-time feedback on what is going on in the game right now and how you as a player might affect it to your advantage.

Excellent! We’ve had our first spinoff product idea: Fusion Tartans.

If you have a specific consumer product idea, feel free to start a new thread on the topic!

I hope to see some of these in the marketplace soon!

    Hi Ben,

Thanks again for the cool posters!

Can you upload the final artwork for these posters so that we have them on file? All three designs. I’d like to make postcards of them for now.

How big are the files? If not too big, upload here. Otherwise – upload to campfire?

    Thanks again!

This is great! And it deserves its own thread. I think we need a whole “consumer products” Forum category. I’ll set that up.

    It’s in the queue.

These are ideas, things to put out to the wide world to exercise your generativity and creativity.

For quite a while I’ve had an idea percolating in the back of my mind: a Focus Fusion (or other fusion-related) tartan. It seems to me that it might be a rather small niche at the intersection of two very different markets but, then again, it seems there’s a tartan for everything these days, so who knows?

That’s brilliant! I love it. How random. Make it happen, I’d love to see what a fusion tartan looks like.
