Even 30 seconds on Oprah can make a world of positive difference. From what I’ve read of the free publicity dance, we need to approach this from the angle of asking ourselves “Oprah and her producer(s) want?” The obvious answer is ratings, and boils down to helping people improve their lives.
Hope for a better future may qualify, and we have several angles on this. This opens the door to being invited back many times and establishing FFS in the public’s mind as the “go to folks for fusion energy information”.
Been a while since I went through the entire Lee package, but it’s not intended for aneutronic fusion per se. What did you think about the formulae? Seems all of them are fractions/ratios. Given a critical axial speed, have you come up with a step by step method which systematically computes the ideal dimensions for each of the parts? I’m no mathemagician, but I do remember that every dimension and parameter is inter-related. I also remember that the Lee simulation and Lerner’s theory (see Tech Papers under the Learning Center link on the homepage’s nav bar) are not always in agreement.
These SWAGs might put your simulator in FoFu1’s ballpark: C~30uF; Vmax~100kV (with dramatically shortened cap design life as voltage increases) L~27nH. You might be able to guestimate the electrode and vacuum chamber specs from the picture galleries. These are copper, designed for operation in deuterium and some mixes of heavier gasses.

Niche-oriented market research can be depressing when you drill down to the demographics. The reason is that most people have no plan and are easily distracted from almost anything within a week. Iow, the frame must paint an extremely vivid picture, whatever the message turns out to be, in order to sear it into the collective consciousness.
Still, if we can get a million people to each contribute $1, we might be able to buy another year of research, so it’s worth pursuing. I’m thinking mobile phone/text a donation might be effective for this. Giving ringtones (“Fire!” and whatever noise Baby makes when it fires) could be framed as status symbols, and promoted with a YT vid which shows on many types of mobile devices.
The story of raising $1M from 1M contributors is newsworthy.
Sadly, the xo number of years away is an inside joke to most people, who associate fusion with music, food, or a Ford brand, like the Focus. I wish that were a joke, but that’s what a search for Focus Fusion will turn up for the most part at the moment. A runaway YT hit may be able to change that in the short term.

The turbine’s trailer makes a very handy set of target specs to compete against. I’m all for raising the exhaust temperature to slightly less than what the market’s proven to be acceptable risks. No matter how safely we design and build FFs, we will never be able to please all of the people all of the time.

In the interest of full disclosure on the dark side of fusion (but not aneutronic), we might want to have a side bar about how one neutron laced fusion approach out there – NIF – can be used in nuclear weapons technology. This would help to differentiate the fusions. Make it clear that what you can do with NIF, you can’t do with DPF.
Another sidebar – what you CAN do with a DPF related to nuclear technology is test what the effect of a blast would be on electronic equipment – something that is being done these days. This highlights how the powers that be would rather study the DPF as a source of neutrons to test their electrical equipment in the event of a blast – rather than try to develop the DPF into a fusion energy machine. We’d need stats on this, of course.
How about this as a potential background?
You have to remember that I sold, designed, and painted signs for 14 years, Rezwan. I had at most 3 seconds- usually 1 to 2 seconds for a driver to see, read, and decide to respond to a sign. The standard format was 6 words on 3 lines. The owner filled in the details and closed sales either in person or over the phone. What is our Unique Value Proposition in 6 words or less?
I see the poster’s environment as a room full of people mingling amidst a smorgasbord of ideas hoping to be the best. Therefore our poster must stand out from the same-o visual competition from across the room as people walk past it.
When you saw one of my signs, you read it. You had no choice. You didn’t realize you had no choice, it was so natural. Smile much, say little, hand out brochures, and let the poster sell the message of fresh hope (or new FUD) for old problems.
“Aneutronic Fusion- the Cleaner, Safer, Saner Sides of Nuclear Power for the 21st Century” or a variation may work as the headline. These claims could be detailed in succeeding poster panels. Remember, we’re selling basic concepts, not entire installations, so short, concise copy is a plus. 136 words takes roughly one minute to read aloud.
let’s see… 2 minutes max means 272 words for 6 sub-headings and perhaps 18 bullet points, plus a call to action across the bottom. This would ideally be a continuation of the headline such as “Can We Afford Not to Investigate the Potential?”

BTW: The largest market of GE’s 2 MW gas turbines in shipping containers is Pakistan (even before the flooding), because there the grid is so bad, that companies and communities want backup systems to provide their energy needs without much outage.
I agree with Brian’s stampede theory once somebody goes into production. That means that every country on the planet is going to be producing FFs, effectively eliminating international markets within the first year of mass production. All it takes if I’m correct is somebody to break the ice.
