    I really like your speculation. Although some people do go off the path a bit. I hate to ask this next question and totally expose my ignorance on certain subjects. I perceive the need for certain electro-magnetic materials for passing the generation of energy, but (here it comes) could you use LARGE open ended fiber optical transmission lines to pass the energy into the chamber? I’m done, sorry.

    Interesting discussion. It is sad that we rely on historically poor business practices to continue thinking about tomorrow. An angel would be better than a “White Knight” and who can predict which will show up. Consider the box from a different view point then think about some of the most recent successes in business. Then, change the rules according to what fits the current social rhythm and how the technology fits in.

    There are a lot of considerations on the table, the best one is patience. Give it time and prepare not to give it away.

    “Gov 2.0” is about the use of data; government release of data; more creative government policies and better leveraging of data.

    1) The first is technology itself. Communication technology can be better developed to help fusion via better data support and comparison (Gov comes in here, because they have all the data on file – here’s some data you can start building apps with. Minor problem for fusion community requiring introspection: many research projects are mired in secrecy, even the collegial ones. People don’t release data until they feel better about it. These issues need to be addressed.

    There are many advantages to working out microformats and metadata on fusion projects and sharing them across projects (with the help of a government funded, or privately funded program) many people could start to design all kinds of fusion research supporting apps…. These would feed into support and feedback for researchers, as well as things you could pull out to put into digestible formats for public awareness and appreciation.

    2) Better communication and coordination among government funded research projects for components. For example, the LPPX crew continues to have problems with their switches – With metadata about things government is making – perhaps these components could be more easily found and shared/applied to vastly different projects. Match problems with solutions. Think of the metadata required to get that communication going.

    4) Gov 2.0 is also about technology being leveraged to release the “long tail” – microinvestors – right now, the only entities considered as funding sources for fusion are big government and big investors. But with technology, some SEC rules can and should be rethought. We could make the above fund have an exception for investments so that any person can invest in fusion without being accredited. They are limited by their income – can’t sell the house – but I bet a lot of private individuals would be happy to get the same deal as outlined above. And it’s paternalistic to deny them the opportunity.

    1) Communication Technology and raising money do not always connect under the same topic. Data Communication Technology is a place that I can lend some expertise and experience. How you cross pollinate is an added level of discussion.

    2) Meta-data is somewhat limiting in certain types of searches. Document searches create a deep er level of information. Meta-data in a catalog database will get you to the document, but unless you can search the document, such as a pdf or Html file you will miss detail in your overall project. I set up a small 100,000 data asset management system.

    3) An open information system still needs security and a “buy in” from all the parties will be required. My guess is either a third-party central storage location or each institution needs a dedicated storage server, which has a mirror in a central location. The security of which will need a great deal of debate.

    4) A cataloging system is used for engineering documents and by utilizing SQL with a solid programming language like Java or maybe .NET you can set a central searchable site for retrieval of the document with check-out and check-in privileges. Your could also use a biometric finger print to enhance the security.

    5)The system would require some 3 to 5 year full development time and implementation time table. Depending on the amount of data, number of participants and of course funding. I am assuming that there will be a continuous flow of updated documents and in the millions world wide.

    This is just a brief introduction of my knowledge on the subject. It would be good to have a central location for Fusion related information and provide for the progress of the science. I am not sure if a government run system would be advantageous, too much bulk in all their systems. An Oracle system has too many layers, but has a degree of structure that you are looking for.

Put that one in a commercial and run it during a cold Midwest winter night. People will understand and donate to a society that promotes a change in energy direction

    The public thinks that there is already a fusion research that is being worked on by ITER and NIF.
    If we don’t change this preconception well have fusion in 20-50 years or maybe it will still be away by this much then…

    The public forgets that it is the many who control the market place and not the few. Too bad, it is those who have the most influence over those with the least. Leave it up to big corporations and it may never get done. The ant lifts a mighty burden.

    Wow! Ah, ya. Green noise. That is the same as Communication Noise. As defined by many scholars discussing all the advertising and marketing media stuff that comes at you from radio, TV, billboards and Internet. So it is not just the people who support the “Green” movement. You see too many corporations that jumped on the band wagon and have the “me too” stupidity. Although, some are sincere in contributing to changing the world.

    Maybe there needs to be two contingency mission statements. One that puts forth the current mission of education and enlightenment on the subject and one for after, which does… What? More of the same? Doesn’t LPP take on those responsibilities of marketing and normal corporate progression of its work? FFS can not directly interact in some ways, due to the laws separating the non-profit from the profit. Right?

    Here is a flash of an idea. Do a survey of the world or individual countries (whatever) on the energy perceptions. Ask all the relevant questions about each type of energy generation and what they think is true or false. Or, give them multiple choice on the subjects. Problem is short attention spans. At the end of the test they can see how they scored. For the ones they get wrong, you could have a paragraph briefly of the true answer and a link to a credible source web site.

    You could also do a blind market survey of their background.
    origin, income, marital status, etc.

    Start passing that around the internet. Challenge people. Too bad we don’t have a immediate and satisfying, “I want it now!”, kind of prize to give away in a random drawing.

    Part of the work here on this web site and the others (Facebook and linkedIn), are the foundations of both advertising and word of mouth campaigns. Until there is an actual product, we need to formulate the winning audience messages. As usual, these need to be for the technical and non-technical public.

    More input is always needed, planning and market research are extremely important to this embryonic scientific venture, and hopefully a social change in the near future.

    My friend,
    There is a difference between “Vision and Mission Statement” and when people wish to make contributions or assist in raising funds, they start splitting hairs. Personally, I feel it is one of those late 20th Century bull s#@””! corporate hangovers. I have played and watched the games long enough to know it has meaning for lawyers.

    • A Mission statement tells you the fundamental purpose of the organization. It defines the customer and the critical processes. It informs you of the desired level of performance.
    • A Vision statement outlines what the organization wants to be, or how it wants the world in which it operates to be. It concentrates on the future. It is a source of inspiration. It provides clear decision-making criteria.

    And, the mission of Focus Fusion maybe stated in a much different light. We are not directly conducting the research and development and therefore, limited in that outcome. Many of you provide scientific perspectives and I have found great explanations on the subject. Most companies use education as a tool for understanding a new product and “Social Marketing” is a new hybrid that has yet to be fully explored. It is up to Rezwan and the board to determine the mission statement. I only wish to help the focus of this non-profit business in raising more funds and rise above the “Green” noise which keeps the FFS story buried.

    Wisconsin is well known for their expo. I will research and post schedules of for the coming year. Minnesota has a “Going Green Expo” in May. The notification window is small unless you contact them first.

    I spoke with a gentleman who has worked for a company the assists non-profits to raise fund. He has twenty years experience, so when I approached him about Focus Fusion Society, he immediately went for the jugular. “What does it do? What is its mission? I can honesty say I don’t see a direct statement of mission. One that puts the golf ball in the cup.:-)

    I did some research and have a suggestion:

    If you were to break a mission statement down into key commitments by an organization.
    1. Purpose
    2. Defined services to be performed
    3. What are those compassionate personal reasons for its existence
    4. Who receives these services.

    Mission Statement
    Our purpose is to provide an open public forum to achieve the development of technology for a plasma focus fusion device. Through environmental, social and economical responsibility to the world, we will provide safe, cheap, clean, abundant energy that provides a future for a secure life and freedom.

    Of course, every word is up for discussion. Keeping it concise is what makes a grant proposal or funding plea easier to understand. I becomes an emotional issue versus a technical one.

    Hi,
    I made the suggestion of monitoring this event, I thought it would add to a base of marketing knowledge that maybe needed (I thought is was also broadcast online). Future events such as “Green Expos” are a chance to get the word out about the Society. Having a booth at some of the major events around the country would be great P.R. If you had a great self-running presentation, staffing could be light.

    Another factor about events like these is to gather the positive and negative responses from the public. Find out what they think and find ways to improve Focus Fusion marketing messages.

    If you know of other events like this, it would be great to share some of the information found there.

    Maybe it is time to simplify the story and frame it as an advertising or marketing person would. They differentiate their product to the market place through a story. I have been watching a few more of the RSA videos on YouTube.

    “The customer wants to know, “What’s in it for me?” Today, the story they listen to is the one that is very up-close and personal. That is the new social networking key.

    Why do companies like Goggle, Skype, MySpace, Apple and many other new economy types succeed?
    They have three major factors that lead to better performance and personal satisfaction
    i. Autonomy = Engagement
    ii. Mastery = You get better at something you enjoy
    iii. Purpose = You want to solve the energy problem using the above factors

    Notice there is no mention of money? Watch the video.

    The next story has to be one of great hope and maybe even a solution to the environment they live in. Keeping it simple will make it personal.

    I once purposed the idea to a government official about the idea of each city supplying energy to its residents, just like sewer and water services. The Mayor stated his two areas of concern were more responsibility in providing services based on fees, and expanding the amount of employees needed to service a power generation facility. Comments?
