Sometimes the most effective way to win an audience is to use a well crafted analogy. I think this post’s title is a great analogy to Eric and his focus fusion approach Vs the government funded Tokamak or NIF. Mr Langley received a grant of 50 thousand dollars to build an airplane. A huge sum back then. We know now that his airplane ,as designed, would never fly. The Wright brothers were privately funded initially (later government contracts).

Well, we know how that story ended.

I think the comparison is a good one, and I think there is a general lesson to be learned here. Bureaucracies do not make very good choices; and are frequently upstaged by competitors with dramatically fewer resources. I think that is a direct result of the money the bureaucrats are spending not being their own.

Mr Langley had a great many commendable accomplishments in his lifetime, so this is not a swipe at him.
