Basically there is no way to determine which science is sound or non sound in advance and the only way of moving forward is to form hypothesis and falsify them. You cant even validate a hypothesis!
That article doesn’t say you can’t validate, though strictly speaking the “falsifiability” criterion says you can only try honestly and competently to disprove (invalidate), and fail. Enough such failures to disprove leave a robust hypothesis, AKA a theory.
Focus Fusion’s hypotheses are definitely “falsifiable”; that’s what is now being tested. The experiments leave wide open the possibilities, e.g., that pinches will fail to form, or their energy and heat levels will be much lower or higher than predicted, etc., etc. The HMFE is a major sub-hypothesis putting its predictions on the line, here.
