I was reading a paper recently about guiding electric arc discharges with lasers. http://loa.ensta-paristech.fr/ilm/uploads/ILM/134_Forestier_discharge_AIPAdvances_2_012151_2012.pdf

Since an electric arc is a plasma and it seems to be controlled by laser pulses, could the same principle be applied to fusion plasmas?

It would be interesting to see the results if fusion fuel gases and pressures were used.

There is the potential to create virtual electrodes in fusion chambers to move intense reactions away from the metal electrodes.
