Polywell evangelizer Michael Simon has a recent article on efforts to introduce a bill into the Senate that will allow people to invest up to $1000 in private companies. Companies will be allowed to raise up to $1 million in this manner. A similar bill passed the House with overwhelming bipartisan support in November, so prospects look pretty good for this bill to pass the Senate, but you never know. If you think it’s worth supporting (or if you think it’s a bad idea, for that matter), you might want to contact your senators.

Great! Is this referring to the bill in the House noted in this post? https://focusfusion.org/index.php/forums/viewthread/1015/ Bill number and trackers would be helpful.

Yes, the House bill being referred to is H.R.2930. The Senate bill that has been introduced, but hasn’t yet been voted on, is S.1791.

Here is an interesting discussion about Equity Vs. Donation based funding and this website has some of the players in this game.

This is extremely good news: the Senate has passed the CROWDFUND Act. This should offer LPP a great opportunity for an alternative funding stream.

It should pass the House early next week.

In perspective… out of something rather hideous…

Further unneeded deregulation of the financial industry that will provide about zilch jobs or stimulus on a national scale while enabling levels of fraud not seen since the 1920’s

… can come a chance for something good…

This bill was made to the specific order of lobbyists… and I do not mean the well-meaning branch of the crowdfunding supporters that will inevitably be linked to in replies to my post.

This is not the reform that startup regulation needed but it’s what we’ll have to work with.

Here’s a valuable discussion of Tech IPOs, and why they “Suck”:

Two alternatives to going onto the stock exchanges are mentioned: SecondMarket and SharesPost.
