The Focus Fusion Society is announcing the launch of the Fusion For Peace Committee, which will support the initiative put forward by Lawrenceville Plasma Physics in conjunction with physicists from Iran and Japan. Its specific goal is to promote peace through the pursuit of aneutronic fusion as an energy alternative to alleviate the tensions caused by oil exploitation, nuclear proliferation, and particularly the current confrontation between the US and Iran. We advocate an International Project for Aneutronic Fusion.

For further information read this official announcement.

We need volunteers to join us in developing the Fusion For Peace Committee, as part of Focus Fusion Society’s mission to advocate for the support and expansion of collaborative efforts, within the international community, that will ultimately result in reaching the goal of fusion power for all.
We need to communicate to people that focus fusion can provide an inexpensive alternative to reliance on environmentally challenging resources, and to bring out the connection with peaceful global relations.  We want the Fusion For Peace committee to be actively engaged in the community.

Some examples of the actions that the Fusion For Peace Committee can take to achieve this:
We can organize meetings and forums in places like schools and community centers.
We can submit articles to blogs, political journals, general magazines, and make press releases if/when appropriate. The article submissions should be slightly different according to the audience e.g. “Why Greens / feminists / students / business managers / etc should support Fusion for Peace”.
We can approach political figures – both our local representatives and others – to make them aware of the Fusion for Peace initiative and promote it to them.

If you would like to join the committee, We can use your support!
Please contact the Fusion For Peace Committee, benf@focusfusion.org

There is an extremely large issue that lays within your proposed committee.

through the pursuit of aneutronic fusion…communicate to people that focus fusion can provide…

The word that sticks to the issue is “can”. People have become numb to the notion of someone completing the science or the continual promise that it is “On its way”. The media have done a huge job of conveying the “almost” message. I understand your need to organize a communications committee, but without the “product” there is a lot of missing information in the effort.

You have to understand there are still 30 million people unemployed and underemployed. Time is of the essence in surviving these times we find ourselves in.

My interest in your committee is based on the appreciation of the possible outcome. When Mr. Lerner attains the ultimate goal, it will be very important to us all, providing the substantiated proof needed to start a program. At that time, a great deal of effort will be tactically planned in Marketing and P/R. It will require three times the amount Mr. Lerner has referred to in the past.

Today, creating a blip on the public’s awareness screen requires a great deal of work. Yes, a grass roots approach is a nice starting place for creating awareness; the internet provides a noisy communication vehicle, but your competition has television and radio tools, and billions of dollars. Creating fusion will seem easy compared to what is needed to get the message clearly out.

I can definitely relate to this.

We aren’t the first to begin a peace initiative. There’s been a long history over the years beginning with the disarmament movement which has received the attention of mainstream media at different times. Getting their attention has to start from somewhere though and with this issue it will need to start from local communities forcing it to be a priority.
