Attention New-York-area fusion fans! There will be an interesting conference in New York City this coming Saturday, April, 20, 2013. It is called the Ecosocialist Conference http://ecologicalsocialists.com/ and is a meeting of leftist organizations opposed to global warming and ecological destruction. The meeting will run from 9:30 AM to 7:30 PM at Barnard College, 118th St. and Broadway.
I think this is a good opportunity for us to introduce to many of these activists the idea that aneutronic fusion can be the key answer to climate change. It is a very good bet that the vast majority of them have never heard of this. I will be there myself and if anyone else wants to come, contact me so we can coordinate and bring enough literature for everyone to have.

Hm. You’re making the assumption those goals are an end, not a means. Probe a bit; you may discover otherwise.

Are you implying some other agenda motivates the environmentalists? Heaven forfend. man! I supposed you’ll tell me next that politicians don’t have my best interests at heart…?

As Big Dog said, “Politics is blood sport.” He’s telling us it’s for all the marbles. No quarter.

There’s not just one group of environmentalists. Some are deeply motivated by non-environmental concerns, others just want to fix climate change and ecosystem destruction, and are quite happy with technical solutions including fission reactors. James Hansen, James Lovelock, Stewart Brand, and many others are in the latter group.

This particular group sounds closer to the former. For people in that crowd, I would emphasize the decentralization inherent in focus fusion’s small reactors, along with LLP’s determination to liberally license the technology. Also of course the lack of neutron radiation and nuclear waste.

Of course I’m a little late with my comment. How’d it go?

DennisP raises a good point about tailoring our message to different audience needs. It’s important for us to be going to different events and spreading the word even though it may be challenging as there are so many different perspectives. Most people don’t know about the possibility of aneutronic fusion, it really hasn’t yet reached the mainstream media buzz yet. But there are people in surprisingly different areas who are in a quest to solve energy supply problems. This newsletter is an example (read the continuation p. 9 for reference to LPPX). The information presented could use some more clarity about how Focus Fusion could tie into existing infrastructure, I think. A good reason to have more discussion!
