This might seem like a cliché, but I’d like to ask whether 3D printing could be used to accelerate and broaden Focus Fusion R & D efforts.
Focus Fusion is promoted as a grassroots R & D effort distributed across all sorts of ordinary people and their attempts to generate clean fusion power at the small scale. Wouldn’t it be better for people to post their CAD designs in an online repository, for everyone in the community to access and benefit from? Then people could iterate off other peoples’ ideas, and not just their own. That might make for faster progress.
Also, why do devices have to be so big? Why can’t it be scaled down to tabletop size, or even smaller? Smaller devices can mean smaller material costs.
