I noticed a link to this story on New Energy Times, so it’s likely to get spread across all the cold fusion websites:
Princeton University has agreed to reimburse $1 million to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) following a report by the DOE inspector general (IG) on a program at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) under which employees were assigned to work for extended periods of time at other U.S. laboratories engaged in fusion energy research. The University manages PPPL under a contract with the DOE.
Steven Krivit, the editor of New Energy Times, opines that there is more behind this story, implying some sort of scandal, as “omeone who knows a lot about how university research programs work” contacted him to tell him that it is extremely unusual for a university to return research funds. I’m not sure what such a scandal could be, beyond the stated reasons, but then perhaps I have a limited imagination when it comes to the misuse of research funds.
