Folks;
I searched, but did not find any mention of this crowd-funding mechanism in existing posts.
kickstarter.com is a ‘crowd-sourced’ funding means that allows folks from all over to collectively pool their money to fund research along lines of interest to those who contribute. It’s been used to fund a variety of products already, and has proposals for lots more.
I wonder if you folks (Lawrenceville Plasma, FocusFusion.org) have looked into this. There may be a lot if blue-sky funding out there from people who can have a vision for energy independence, and abundance for all.
Take a look. Maybe post a project…
Patrick

Subject: An update to your project submission on Kickstarter
To: derek@lpphysics.comMichael McGregor commented on your Kickstarter submission:
Hi Derek,
Thank you for taking the time to share your idea. Unfortunately, this isn’t the right fit for Kickstarter. We receive many project proposals daily and review them all with great care and appreciation. We see a wide variety of inspiring ideas, and while we value each one’s uniqueness and creativity, Kickstarter is not the right platform for all of them. We wish you the best of luck as you continue to pursue your endeavor.
Best,
Mike
That was for a proposal to crowd-fund last summer’s switch upgrades, and I made them a video and everything! But don’t let that stop anyone from coming up with a (probably less hardware-oriented?) proposal.
I see. Excellent that you tried. Sorry it didn’t work out.
You’ve looked into other crowd-funded means? (probably, I’m thinking)
I’ll write to those that I know of. Maybe they’ll be more interested this go ’round.
Pat
yeah, let’s go for it!
Not my personal cuppa, not being a social-networking addict, but:

OK, a new crowd funding source may have opened up. The article is,

Got a cool idea for a research project, but need funding? Check out Petridish.org, which has just launched crowdfunded science and research projects. I think this is a really great idea that could open up funding for some amazing research ideas.

Maybe this is worth looking over?

Good tip, Patrick–The current limit there is $15k, but we could probably target a subproject in that budget range.
Does Focus Fusion intend to try crowd-sourcing again? I’ve seen Kickstarter successfully fund other plasma experiments such as this one.
KickStarter requires that you produce a ‘deliverable’ – which is to say a product that you can send as an premium to backers. WHen I contacted KickStarter to ask about funding the research done in pursuit of FoFu, they said it didn’t comport with their goals & practices.
I think that Indie GoGo is likely a better funding mechanism for pure science,

That said, there may be other crowd-funding means out there that I don’t know about.
Someone on this board needs to win the lottery!

I see. The group I was looking at on Kickstarter was giving out stickers and T-shirts to their backers. I did find a list of crowd funding services here:
