It was a long, exciting first day for me meeting and getting to work with the LPPX team at the Focus Fusion-1 lab in New Jersey.  Since I am volunteering on the project through the Focus Fusion Society, I will work doubly hard to share the adventure with all of you!  And that begins with the path to fusion.  No, not the Iter itinerary, but a much more modest stroll from South Bound Brook to the lab across the river in Middlesex.

This post is a bit light on tech, but my head is still spinning from all the lab stuff I learned today!  We did fire 16 shots, so it was a busy introduction to my new best friend FoFu-1!  We were making lightning in the lab, but the real thunder was rumbling up on the roof.  The lab doesn’t have windows and we had a lot to do, though, so I didn’t even see today’s big storm - It whizzed above our heads like the neutrons to their time-of-flight detectors.

Follow LPPX on Twitter for more tech-related updates.

We’ll also work to expand the diversity of fusion approaches covered here on the Focus Fusion Society site, since we want to encourage a variety of clean energy solutions - Watch for some spheromak stuff soon.

There are a lot of challenges ahead, but stay positive and the electrons will flow your way!

;-Derek
