Seeking volunteers to cut together an Oil spill Fusion video
Eric suggested we leverage this tragic BP oil spill to get the word out about fusion. Are there any volunteers out there who can put something like this together. It just requires some simple captions, a few images, and music.
Eric’s concept:
New 30 second FFS viral video
No voice over—captions superimposed on video with musicWhat is our energy future?
This?
Video of live oil spill feed, (capture some before they prettify it any more) ominous repetitive music, in time with burbling oil, bum-bum bum- bum bum bum
Caption: environmental disaster?
Video of some iconic footage from Gulf war/Iraq
Caption: wars for oil?
Or This?
Cheap, clean unlimited energy from
FUSION, the power that drives the universe
Video—collage of panned stills: galaxies, quasars, video of solar flares
zooming inwards, up tempo music—the Focus Fusion theme
FOCUS FUSION
Torulf video—excerpts, sped up, collage of electrodes, best photos of core of experiment (as in present animation, but faster)
FUSION in THIS DecadeAneutronic fusion—NO Radioactive waste
Final flourish, peace symbol Nuclear Power without nuclear weapons
Then http://WWW.FOCUSFUSION.ORG hold END
Possible problems—permissions for videos, although I suspect BP won’t be suing anyone for infringement anytime soon. Music—original.

How Will LPP Get There From Here?

I know someone interested in doing this, with original music. However we’re both very concerned about copyright issues on the video. Given focus fusion’s limited budget, the last thing it needs is a copyright lawsuit; and given its potential to overturn the biggest corporations in the world, the last thing it needs to do is give them a legal target to attack.
The video would be cool but probably wouldn’t provide such a benefit that it would be worth incurring legal risk.
However, it’s still a great idea if we can get footage which is original or public domain, or get permission from rights holders. I’m sure the major media have a process for this but I don’t know how to go about it.
If you are using public domain images and not directly addressing the negative side of the spill(that will be delicate), and promoting the positive side of fusion. You may be able to avoid legal entanglements. Your goal is the alternative to oil and the destruction of the environment it causes. By not directly “saying” these things and let the public domain images speak for themselves, you can accomplish a great deal of PR.
I would be willing to help.
Here is a base idea for a script.
How do you define something that naturally occurs in nature?
We know oil and water don’t mix.
We know neutron radiation and people don’t mix.
We know that the sun is a natural fusion generator
We are defining naturally occurring fusion for our world.

I think you could show pictures of oil spills without problem, they’re a universal problem. BP’s logo should probably not appear….not sure about that. Wikimedia has public domain oil spill pics.

Rezwan, is there a place to send pictures to? You’ve produced some videos that are great documentaries of the DPF process. Are you able to pull this one together? How can we help? I would end it with “peace symbol, Fusion nuclear power without nuclear weapons or nuclear waste”, another T-shirt logo idea…
I like Eric’s concept, but am wary of showing images entirely of this single spill. The well footage seems iconic to me, and is most likely copyrighted.
But oiy beaches in Alaska, several other states and nations will reinforce the music.
If we attack anything I’d think that it would be the notion that a steam cycle is still required to make commercial electricity. And by extension, the 130 year assumption that electricity=pollution.
Very insightful comment, Aero. Focusing on the steam cycle is very basic, and can lead in lots of worthwhile directions.
For example, start with steam being generated by various means, from coal to oil to fission, each with a brief collage of ‘downside’ images, then segue to non-steam options presently available such as solar and wind, but with overlaid $/Watt numbers—and then the big OR—> FF, with its simple direct-drive generation, and the ¢/W to build out overlaid (no promises, just a range of 5¢ - 20¢, e.g.).
But it’s worth thinking about what benefits are expected from it. It seems to me that it would be most useful to use as a prelude to release of significant feasibility breakthroughs, such as unity (any one of them: scientific, thermal, or electrical).
The ability of creating a viral video/message requires an understanding of why the audience passes it along. Most of them are entertainment, some are down right painful to watch and then there are the dumb luck ones. This type of media is not hitting someone over the head with facts and science.
Think of words that draw people to an idea. Curiosity and mystery are innate motivators for them to chase after the designs behind a truly viral video. Don’t make promises or disappoint, give them hope for an end to the nightmare of fossil fuels and nuclear waste.
The music should be appropriate to the images and the message. Using a generic theme such as the Focus Fusion music may not do that. Also, your logo Should incorporate the identity of fusion, the Plasmoid.
I wish I could post these images right here. :-(
There are two threads for this subject. The other one is on the Social Marketing Forum.

I have not looked for any other ones. There a should be a way to combine them. Cut and paste I guess…
