LPP February 7, 2011 report
Parts of the LPP February 7, 2011 report are available on LPP’s website. The whole report is available here as a pdf.
Apologies for not posting this on the FFS site earlier. We did send it out to dues paying members when it first came out, if that’s any consolation.
Topics include:
- LPP’s first peer-reviewed Focus Fusion paper has been published in the Journal of Fusion Energy. It contains our basic theory and preliminary results from last year’s experiments.
- In an eventful month in the lab, we have seen evidence for the first time that we have achieved high efficiency of energy transfer into the plasmoid and the beam. More than 15% of total bank energy, over 8 kJ, passed through to the beams.
- We have made the highest-resolution images ever of a DPF plasmoid and hit a new record of 180 keV in confined ion energy.
- We have achieved a much better understanding of the sequence of events that leads to the too-low density plasmoids we have been observing.
- Design work has been completed for our ruggedized switches, and manufacture of the test switch is underway.
- We have released a new video showing the plasmoid formation with actual images.
I will now break down those articles into separate posts as they all merit some dedicated discussion. Please stand by.
