You Can Help Finance Fusion
The FFS is now a tax-exempt charity under section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The effective date of the exemption is October 31, 2005, so any contributions that you made to FFS since that date are tax-deductible under section 170 of the Code. The IRS notified FFS of the status in a Dec 2 letter that FFS received Dec. 14.
You can make a difference! Your modest donation could leverage the mother of scientific discoveries! Contributions and membership dues can help the Focus Fusion Society finance the research needed to make cheap, safe, clean and unlimited energy a reality. We are not merely advocating the need for the government to fund fusion research-- we are doing this research ourselves. But funds are urgently needed!
Our fundraising team, through the connection with Lawrenceville Plasma Physics, raises funds in the traditional way by pursuing grant money and venture capital, lobbying government and so forth. Our efforts have met with modest success, but we could use some skilled people in this department. If you are an investor, grantwriter or otherwise good at helping organizations procure funds, don’t hesitate to contact us! For more information on our funding breakdown, please read the fundraising section.
Traditional sources of funding are excellent and have been key in getting us this far. At this rate they may well turn out to be what takes us to the finish line. But in designing this website, we are hoping to inspire a larger cross-section of people to take an active part in shaping the future of this planet. At this time, less than half of one percent (0.5%) of our funding has come from the public via the website (see this chart). We’d like to change that.
Wouldn’t you like to be one of the people that had the vision to fund fusion research and save the world?
