Hilariously, the JAXA IBUKI satellite map of CO2 emission/uptake has revealed that the West is a major sink, and the undeveloped world a major source…

*sigh*

No.

The O’Sullivan screwup again? You’ve checked the actual paper that the map came from, right?

On the Benefit of GOSAT Observations to the Estimation of Regional CO2 Fluxes (PDF), by H. Takagi et al

One of the researchers of the actual paper, Tomohiro Oda, checked in with Suite101 and said, in short, “That’s not what the map means.”

Heh.  That story is just bafflegab, going on about “reducing uncertainties”.  Makes no reference to the actual data and comparisons.  Land based CO2 measures on west and east coasts also show more inflow than outflow.
